It’s that time of year again,when we head off to Japan,we literally only booked this buying trip a week ahead of departing,due to Kate’s mum being ill,so not only did we book this so late it’s also a lot earlier,the main reason for now opting to go earlier is because things have changed in Japan and the buying seasons have moved, when i first started going to Japan over 20 yrs ago we would never go until early/mid March as the breeders simply did not have the Tosai anywhere near ready or big enough by then,but this has all now completely changed with many Thai and far east dealers wanting Koi earlier and earlier which doesn’t present them with the same issues we have,as their climate is a lot warmer, so breeders are now growing their Tosai on much quicker to the point you can now easily find 25-30cm Tosai in Japan even in december……..! so we have had to move with the times as last year going in Mid Feb was very difficult and hard work there was just not enough Koi left especially the quality we look to purchase,
