Product Evaluation and testing ...........Pond Filters........Please see below.

We at COASTAL KOI consider product evaluation very important within our overall sales strategy, with a policy of only offering for sale items that we consider suitable for the purpose and to the best of our ability correctly described.

By carrying out our own in house evaluations on most products we sell and operating high percentage quality control checks, we can meet the needs of our customers.

When dealing with Top quality products by leading manufacturers : The names Aquamax Sequence Nexus Etc. spring to mind the need for quality checks is not quite so important as some of the lesser well known budget priced imported items.

Please find below the results of some of our findings:- Recent Trials and in use Evaluations 1*2*3*4*5* Higher the star rating the better.

The choice the filter system to use in any particular set up is always going to be difficult decision to make.

The choice of which filter system to install is more often than not dictated by overall cost. Below we will try to evaluate our own findings based on the filters we have either installed, experimented with or use ourselves.

First up is the Bubble Bead (BBF Series)

By the time you account for the filter itself the prefilter required the pump which has to be a fairly powerful one, and then add in higher running costs (Electricity) It is never going to be the cheapest system.

But it must rate (in our oppinion) as one of the best. Beads will always polish water better than a multibay type. We have used one of these with an Ultra-seive as a pre filter on a large stock pond for many years, and have found it to be an Excellent piece of kit

Second up is the good old Multi-Bay design Various designs and makes available.

With a reasoable initial set up cost and having the ability to be modified at user level to suit individual requirements this type of filter is probably the most popular.

They are also probably the easiest type to take out sell and replace with either a diffrerent size or type. Or perhaps add on an additional bay or maybe a vortex pre-filter.

Any running repairs needed are likely to be at a lower cost than that of a Nexus or any one of the various bead filters available

The Nexus range filters what do we say about these ? Excellent can be the only word.

We must rate these filters especially now they are fitted with the Eazy as one of the most reliable and straight forward filters to use.

The illustration below shows a Nexus 200 filtering a couple of tanks close to 2000 gls.in total

This particular set up has been in operation for the best part of three years now without so much as a Hic-Up. Not much more to say except Superb filter in every way

If I were to pass any comment at all I might suggest the polishing effect from a bead filter just might be very slightly superior.

Doubtful but if required extra polishing could easily be effected by the addition of a pleated Cartridge filter in the return line.

The Hailea ACO-9730 Air pump is being used to supply the air has also been trouble free.

Next up and certainly gaining credence and popularity is the Bead filter

Similar in operation to the Bubble Bead range these too require the additional use of a Pre-filter. A Vortex chamber or seive arrangement being suitable.

Latest

Current evaluation is for our own Coastal Koi Bead Filter

All the Design work is now finished and extensive trials will begin soon.

This has been in the pipe line (excuse the pun) for some time now,and we are hoping to have it ready for next season.

As with all new products that come to the market they are very rarely a new design but just an improved variation of known system.

Having spent many years in development engineering we feel quite confident we can come up with a superior product
